I opened James 3 with my soul on alert: watch your tongue. We stumble in many ways, but when it comes to speaking, we stumble greatly. A word is like an arrow: once shot, it does not return. It is also like a bag of feathers let loose in the air: impossible to gather everything back. Therefore, I ask you for prudence, especially when emotions are boiling and your finger is already on the keyboard. Do not argue on social media. Speak less, listen more. James says: be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.
James does not embellish: he is practical like Proverbs. He begins by reminding us that teachers will be judged with greater strictness. Leadership does not grant immunity; it increases responsibility. And he gets to the root: the tongue is the megaphone of the heart. If I do not restrain my tongue, I deceive my own heart; my religion becomes a facade. And more: do not speak ill of your brothers; when we do this, we position ourselves as judges, not as obedient to the law of love. Death and life are in the power of the tongue; choose life.

Use your mouth to pacify, not to ignite. If the tongue ignites, let it be to warm, not to burn. Before passing anything along, filter it: is it true? Is it kind? Is it useful? The tongue can bless the nation, transform environments, restore relationships. Start at home, in the closest conversation.
Six Sins That God Hates (Proverbs 6:16-19)
- Haughty eyes: pride that exalts itself above the neighbor.
- Lying tongue: deceit that corrodes trust and peace.
- Hands that shed innocent blood: violence against life.
- Heart that devises wicked plans: schemes of evil.
- Feet that make haste to run to evil: readiness for violence.
- False witness: perjury that destroys reputations.
And there is the seventh, which the soul of God abhors: one who sows discord among brothers. That is why I insist: restrain your tongue. Do not sow discord with acidic comments, ironies, and judgments. Let us be ministers of reconciliation. Let the Spirit put bit and rudder in your mouth. Today, choose to speak life: ask for forgiveness, refuse gossip, disarm the fight, bless those who disagree with you. God calls us to coherence: the same mouth that blesses, treat your neighbor with dignity.
