Be transformed by the renewal of your mind

Transformation through the renewal of the mind

Read

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Today’s message

I sat down to talk to you about real change. Not superficial, not social media. Change that reaches home, work, hallway conversations at the office, and decisions at university. Today I want to bring factors that help us live the transformation that the Word offers. I am not talking about magic hours, but clear steps. And I admit to you: it is not always immediate, instantaneous. Like a baby that takes time to show traits, holiness also matures in us. So, let's go straight to the foundation: Romans 12:2.

The text commands us not to conform to this world and commands us to be transformed by the renewal of our understanding. Why? Because we are not of the world. Jesus said that if we were of the world, it would love us as its own. But He chose us out of the world. This explains the pressure at the office, the sideways glance in the room, the invitation to straddle the fence. And John also affirms: we know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. So, neutrality does not exist. Either we conform, or we face the confrontation that drives change.

Three words in this text that can help us a lot on the path of change

  1. Conformed — If I adapt to the system, transformation stops. Those who accept the world's standard have stopped on the path.
  2. Renewal — New information from the Word supersedes the old, confronts my habits, and gradually changes my practice.
  3. That you may prove — The goal is to live God's will in the flesh: good, acceptable, and perfect, not just to recount it.
When my mind changes, I begin to have experiences.

Regarding renewal, I will be simple: the only way to fix it is to overlay new information on the old, believing and practicing. Nicodemus came this way: he came at night, asked questions, received light, and that light confronted him. Colossians speaks of a 'former time' when we walked differently. Romans says that the law reveals sin. When the mind receives light, it hurts, but it frees. And yes, transformation takes time. I respect your process, but I call you today to keep walking.

And that you may prove? I look at Joseph. They sold him, slandered him, imprisoned him. When he reveals himself, he says: God sent me before you to preserve life. Two years of famine had passed, and five remained. Do you see? Good, acceptable, and perfect is not 'easy and frictionless.' It is God governing against the tide of circumstances. The renewal of the mind changes the narrative from victim to vocation. What was prison becomes a platform; what was delay becomes sending.

Now, direct application. Stop asking for peace with the system if it costs your transformation. Get off the fence. Let the Word rewrite your criteria for money, affections, and decisions. Do not settle for being a narrator of someone else's experience. When my mind changes, I begin to have experiences. I want to see this in you: in the honest conversation with your spouse, in the proposal you refuse, in the request for forgiveness you make, in the gentle firmness you assume in a hostile environment.

Did you know

  • Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin; he sought Jesus at night and dialogued about being born again (John 3:1-10).
  • When Joseph revealed himself to his brothers, he said that there had already been two years of famine and five remained (Genesis 45:6).
  • Zacchaeus was the chief tax collector in Jericho and, after meeting Jesus, decided to restore and change his practice (Luke 19:2-8).

Key phrases

  • Today I want to bring a reflection about some factors that can help us change, to live the transformation that God's word offers us.
  • It is not always immediate, instantaneous, right?
  • Do not be conformed to this world. If by being in this environment, I conform to what is happening, inevitably transformation will not happen.
  • The only way to fix it is to manage to overlay new information over an old one, believing in it and making it your inspiration now.
