Let Go

Release what holds you to the past and obey God's direction to start over.

Remember Lot's wife. Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.

Today’s message

Have you ever felt stuck inside while time moved on? I have. That's how I heard Jesus tear into the subject with three words: remember Lot's wife. Her problem was not just disobedience; it was attachment. The body moved, but the heart stayed in the city. Attachment does that: it keeps the soul in a station that no longer exists. And when we realize it, we become a statue inside. Today I invite you to the adult and liberating exercise of letting go. Everything passes. God continues. And He calls you to release what no longer fits.

I return to the text. Jesus speaks of salvation and the end, and in the middle of His speech, He points to Genesis 19: the angels take Lot and his family out, and the command is clear: do not look back. Lot's wife turns her gaze and becomes a pillar of salt. Attachment turns escape into paralysis. Mark 10 shows the rich young man going away sad because his possessions owned him. Isaiah 43 says: do not consider the former things; God is doing a new thing. The target is not behind. It is ahead, for those who let go and follow.

Lessons learned from Lot's wife

  1. Attachment to the past can destroy our future and neutralize God's paths.
  2. Attachment transforms movement into stagnation: who was leaving became a pillar of salt.
  3. Attachment steals the vision of what God is doing today, here and now.
The truth is that we do not suffer from losing something. We suffer because of the attachment we have to something we lost.

I want to be practical with you. This is not theory. I myself have had to let go of cities, titles, plans, to obey. It hurt, but it was healing. Attachment is not love; it is imprisonment. Love trusts. Attachment controls. Jesus calls us to a path of open hands. And yes, this involves firm choices. No one lets go without saying some 'no's and some 'yes, Lord's.

Four things I would suggest to let go

  1. Let go of material things: own possessions without letting them own you.
  2. Let go of relationships that hinder God's purpose in your life.
  3. Let go of your own will, saying: Your will be done, Lord.

When we let go, we reap freedom, growth, and intimacy with God. Forgive and release old hurts; do not turn memories into prisons. Where your heart is, there your treasure will be: move your heart toward God. There is a new beginning prepared for those who obey without looking back. Forgetting what lies behind, press on. God is making a way in the wilderness and rivers in dry places. Today, choose to walk forward with Him.
