God Works Powerfully in Disadvantage

When everything is against you, God reduces our strength so that the glory is His.

Read

And the Lord said to Gideon, The people who are with you are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands; lest Israel claim glory for itself against me, saying, My own hand has saved me.

Today’s message

Do you believe in the Bible? I do — and that's why I say: God only works in disadvantage. No one likes this place, but everyone celebrates those who win in it. Look around: when resources, stature, and connections are lacking, that's when heaven sets the stage. I don't romanticize pain or incompetence. I'm talking about scenarios where our accounts don't add up and our arm doesn't reach. There, God shows who He is. Human disadvantage is the stage for divine action. And when the applause comes, there will be no confusion: the glory will be His.

Open Judges 7:2 with me. God looks at Gideon's army and says: the people who are with you are too many. Why? So that Israel does not boast against me. God reduces from thirty thousand to three hundred, to deliver the victory into the hands of those who recognize the source. This is heaven's pedagogy: cutting the excess that feeds our ego, until the only explanation is God. When He acts this way, it is not cruelty; it is protection of our hearts and testimony.

Number one, His name will be glorified. Number two, a story is coming.

  1. His name will be glorified — He reduces our strength so that no one steals the glory.
  2. A story is coming — from disadvantage comes lineage and legacy: Ruth, Obed, Jesse, David.
Human disadvantage is the stage for divine action.

Notice the pattern in Scripture. Paul heard: My grace is sufficient for you. The power of God is made perfect in weakness. God chooses the foolish things to shame the wise. Abraham only received the son when it was no longer possible. Esther was an orphan and a foreigner. David faced a giant bigger than him. Samson won more in the end, when he was broken. In all these turns, God cut human guarantees so that the impossible would have divine signature.

How to respond to disadvantage

  1. Stop complaining and discern: God may be setting the stage to reveal His power.
  2. Do your part even in disadvantage; throw the stone, God provides the intensity.
  3. Do not steal the glory — when you win, confess: it was the Lord who did it.
  4. Learn to listen to those God has raised to guide you, like Mordecai and Naomi.

So, rise up in faith. If one pursues a thousand when the Lord is with them, what is lacking is not numbers, but dependence. Offer the disadvantage as an altar. Work with what you have. Guard your heart from vanity. And when the harvest comes, do not confuse seed with tree: it's just the seed. Persevere. In due time, the story God is writing in you will glorify His name and silence human accounts.
