Don't Get Distracted by What Doesn't Change

Ignore the Eliabs and defeat the giant that matters.

Today’s passage

And Eliab, his older brother, heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why did you come down here? and with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride, and the naughtiness of your heart; for you are come down that you might see the battle.

1 Samuel 17:28

Today’s message

I know how tiring it is to try to explain your heart to someone who has already decided not to understand. I've wasted too much time on this. Stop stressing over what doesn't change. Look at David arriving at the camp with lunch. He is just doing his part. No platform, no sword, just faithfulness. The door opened, the giant shouted, and what was in his heart showed up. That's it: what matters is what's in your heart. It's not volume, it's direction. It's not noise, it's focus.

Eliab heard David, got angry, defined intentions, and belittled his service: few sheep. Do you know this tone? People who judge what you feel and try to shrink what God entrusted to you. David could have argued back. He didn't. He turned and spoke to another. Here I learn the battle that steals our strength the most: convincing those who won't be convinced. When you listen to Eliab, the giant goes away. Eliab is not your enemy. The enemy is Goliath, and he is right in front of you.

How I Act in Front of the 'Eliabs'

  1. I recognize: some won't change now. I respect the limit and save my breath.
  2. I deal with compassion. I pray for Eliab and release the need to prove my heart.
  3. I turn and move on. I change my interlocutor and advance toward what truly drives the promise.
  4. I hold my tongue. I don't put energy into discussions that bear no fruit.
  5. I remember the word I received and align my steps with my calling.

Stop stressing over what doesn't change.

I want you to notice David's movement: he does not disrespect his brother, but he also does not worship his opinion. He guards his heart and preserves his focus. Maturity is choosing the right battles. Some fights only God can win; others aren't even fights, they're distractions. If you waste time with Eliab, you lose focus on Goliath. It's simple and hard. Therefore, take care of what God has given you and do not negotiate your attention.

So do as David did. Remember what God said about you. Remember the hidden victories that no one saw: the bear, the lion, the process. Walk light, without irony, without proving anything. Let Eliab speak. You look, have compassion, pray, but do not stop. Keep doing your part and frame the giant by name. There is a cause. Go after your giant and defeat him in the name of Jesus.
