Take the little and let God multiply

Compassion that leaves the boat and gives the little for God to multiply.

Read

And He ordered the people to sit down on the grass; and He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed the food, and breaking the loaves, He gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve full baskets.

Today’s message

God likes to start from where no one expects. A basket in the river. An empty table. Five loaves, two fish, twelve baskets at the end. But the emphasis here is not on quantity. It's on heart. I read Matthew 14 and see two perspectives before the same hungry crowd. Jesus had just received the news of John's death and faced rejection in Nazareth. Yet, when He disembarks, He sees, feels, and heals. Moved with compassion, He leaves the boat. I want that heart in me and in you.

The disciples saw the same scenario and did the math: deserted place, late hour, only five loaves and two fish, about five thousand men, besides women and children. Proposed solution: send them away. Jesus doesn't discuss spreadsheets. He asks: what do you have? And tells them to bring it. Because God doesn't demand what we don't have, but asks for what is already in our hands. The question exposes our limit, yes, but also reveals where multiplication begins: in the giving.

Two typologies of heart

  1. Heart of Jesus: the pain of others changes my plans; I leave the boat.
  2. Heart of the disciples: I see a problem, hold on to the little, and preserve my plans.
  3. Heart of Jesus: heals first, then feeds; compassion leads to action.
  4. Heart of the disciples: calculates first, gives up later; scarcity dictates the agenda.
The Lord cannot multiply what you are not willing to give.

Do you see the thread? Only what is given multiplies. The widow of Zarephath saw the oil flow when she started pouring. Kept, the manna rotted; shared, it sustained the people. It's the same principle. God doesn't call ready people; He calls willing people. Moses said: who am I? Gideon said: I am the least. Jeremiah heard: do not say: I am a child. They all had little. The point was never the size of the resource, but the direction of the heart.

Practical calls for today

  1. Leave your boat: notice the pain beside you and change your plans.
  2. Bring the little: give your limitations, fears, and what seems irrelevant.
  3. Do not keep bread: share what God has given you with real names and places.
  4. Respond despite insufficiency: say yes and walk while He multiplies.

I saw God do this when I arrived with less than two hundred reais and a poor vocabulary. I saw it when I went back to listen to a woman crying on the street. Small offerings, great encounters. Christ Jesus has no body on earth but yours. So I ask you with love and urgency: can the Lord count on you? Bring it here. Bring everything: your scarcity, your insecurity, your seeds. The little in our hands remains little; in His hands, it feeds multitudes.

Key phrases

  • No look of pain goes unnoticed by God's gaze.
  • The Lord cannot multiply what you are not willing to give.
  • The little in our hands remains little, but the little in God's hands becomes much.
