How to Raise Children Like Jesus

Being a father and mother is a pastoral mission: to shape promises that aim for the target and live like Jesus.

Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward.

Today’s message

God wants to bring heaven to your home. I believe this and work for it. Children do not come ready; they are built with faith, responsibility, and presence. When my wife and I adopted a child, the prophets of chaos appeared. I responded with conviction: I did not generate slaves, I generated promises. Psalm 127 says that children are a heritage from the Lord. If they are a heritage, each one carries a destiny. Your child may be facing a problem, but he is not a problem. He is a promise. In due time, the miracle happens.

Each child is...

  1. a promise: God entrusted a future for you to care for with faith and courage.
  2. a mission: like Joseph, receive from God the task of shaping for Him.
  3. an arrow: will be launched into the world; needs preparation, target, and timing.
  4. a sheep: needs provision, direction, and protection from the shepherd of the house.

Think of Joseph. God could have made Mary raise Jesus alone, but He called a man to be a father. Mission has a name and surname at home. Hebrews says that Jesus learned. If the Son of God went through stages, our children do too. The question that guides me is straightforward: does my behavior manifest Jesus or the devil? The best way to shape children like Jesus is to resemble Jesus. When they see Christ in us, the mission moves in the right direction.

When the Bible speaks of an arrow, think of three steps

  1. Preparation: smooth edges, strengthen the shaft, train in secret, cultivate character.
  2. Target: define purpose in God; clear identity avoids shooting in the wind.
  3. Launch: trust the timing; release the hand with blessing and courage, not fear.
you did not generate a slave you generated promises

The world is not a theme park; it is a battlefield. An arrow without preparation becomes a risk; an arrow with preparation hits the target. And who prepares? The shepherd of the house. No one understands their mission as a father without understanding the pastoral ministry. In John 10, Jesus lays down His life for the sheep; He is our standard. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Conscious parents do not cast curses; they proclaim destiny, like Jacob over his children. Words pave the way for feet to follow.

Three things every child needs (Psalm 23)

  1. Provision: green pastures — affection, food, boundaries, spiritual life at home.
  2. Direction: paths of righteousness — teach the Word, set an example, and provide just correction.
  3. Protection: rod and staff — a firm presence that comforts and drives out the wolf.

Simple and daily application: receive your children as a heritage and assume your pastoral mission. Organize a routine of Bible, prayer, and open conversation. Place identity in the children's mouths: I was born to win; I was born for the praise of the glory of God. Decorate the home with Scripture, correct with love, and celebrate small steps. Blessing is not an event; it is a habit. Bless your children today with hands on their heads and a future in their mouths. You did not generate a slave; you generated promises.

  • In Psalm 23, the rod and staff were real tools of the shepherd in the Judean desert: to guide, correct, and protect.
  • In biblical culture, a full quiver represented readiness and family strength; children were seen as defense and legacy.
