God is Still Working

Do not declare the end in the middle of the story; wait for God's provision and turnaround.

Today’s passage

And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

Genesis 22:1-2WEB

Today’s message

God is still working. When I say this, I am calling you to hold back your opinion in the midst of pain. We are quick to declare the end. We leave the game before the whistle. Abraham walked three days with silence in his heart, wood on his son's back, and an order that hurt his heart. Even so, he did not close the story. He went up. He trusted. The extraordinary sometimes lives in the midst of chaos. And in chaos, we do not comment on the ending; we obey, take a step, and wait for God to show up.

I see Isaac asking: where is the lamb? And I hear the answer that sustains my faith: God will provide himself a lamb. That's it. Abraham did not have the lamb in hand, but he had confidence in God's character. James reminds me: our life is a vapor; we do not control tomorrow. So, I rest in the one who knows the end from the beginning. The miracle often does not come from outside in; it is born within a heart that decided to stay when everything screams to leave.

I have looked at the back of life like that knitting screen: behind, just tangled yarn; in front, the finished design. On the mountain, it looked like the back. But there was a ram caught by its horns. Only those who stay see the twists of the story. Joseph stayed, and the prison became government. Jonah went down to the depths, and God brought him back to purpose. At Calvary, soldiers guarded the tomb, but life burst forth from within. John 3:16 closes the picture: the ultimate Lamb was offered.

God is still working.

Three Decisions for Those Who Want to See the Turnaround

  1. Hold your tongue: do not issue a sentence about something God is still writing.
  2. Stay in the place of obedience, even when the path is silent.
  3. Confess hope: God will provide; He never stopped working.

Notice: God was not just asking for Isaac; He was forming Abraham. Sometimes, God touches our smile to heal our heart of control. Adult faith is this: to climb the mountain saying we will return. It is to walk with fire and knife in hand, and still, worship. When you hold the verdict, peace fits in your heart. When you stay, heaven has room to surprise you. It is not finished. It is not over. Wait on the Lord, rest in Him, and let Him work.

I want you to keep this image: God is the God of the second half of overtime. If you declared: it’s over, there’s nothing more to do, give the pen back. The Author has not abandoned the plot. He knows where the lamb is. The ending is perfect because it is His. Today, choose to stay. Choose to obey. Choose to trust. And when the whistle blows, you will recognize: in every hard step, God was still working.
